Have you ever had something on your heart that felt too small, too silly, or too selfish to actually bring to God? I have. More times than I can count.
The prayers we talk ourselves out of
I remember sitting in my car a while back, needing something so specific and so small — honestly, I don’t even remember what it was anymore — and thinking, God has bigger things to deal with than this. So I didn’t pray it. I just carried it quietly instead, the way we do with a hundred little worries a week.
Here’s what I’ve come to believe since then: God isn’t rationing His attention. He’s not choosing between your “big” prayers and someone else’s crisis on the other side of the world. He’s not that small, and neither is His capacity to care about the small stuff in your life. This is actually a lot of what I unpack in Still, Small Voice — learning to trust that God’s voice and attention aren’t reserved for the dramatic moments.
Why the “small” prayers matter more than we think
Scripture doesn’t say bring Him your reasonable requests. It says bring Him everything — your anxieties, your hopes, even the things that feel too silly to say out loud. Not because He needs the information, but because prayer was never really about information. It’s about relationship. And relationships aren’t built on only the big, important conversations. They’re built in the small, ordinary ones too.
Think about the people closest to you. You don’t only talk to them about the major life stuff — you tell them about your day, your random thoughts, the little things that made you laugh or frustrated you. That’s what makes it intimacy instead of formality.
What I’ve learned to do differently
Now, when something small is on my heart, I try to bring it to God anyway — even if it feels silly. Even if I catch myself thinking, is this even worth mentioning? Especially then, honestly. Because I’ve realized: the prayers I almost don’t pray are usually the ones that teach me the most about what it means to actually trust Him with all of me, not just the parts that feel spiritually appropriate. It’s part of why I built Grace Unfolding with daily reflection space — because these small, ordinary conversations with God are the ones that quietly shape a whole year of faith.
So today, if there’s something small sitting on your heart that you’ve been carrying alone because it didn’t feel “big enough” to bring to God — bring it anyway. He’s not too busy for you.
I’d love to hear — what’s something small you’ve been carrying quietly? Come find me on Instagram, because I want to keep having these honest conversations with you.
With grace,
