Can I be honest with you for a second?
I used to pray like I was handing God a finished itinerary and just asking Him to sign off on it. “Lord, bless this plan.” “Lord, open this door.” “Lord, make this work out.” I already knew where I wanted to end up — I just wanted His stamp of approval on the way there.
And then I’d get frustrated when the details wouldn’t come. No clarity. No peace. No green light. Just… silence.
Here’s what I’ve had to learn the hard way: God doesn’t hand out directions to a destination you picked without Him.
Think about it like this — you wouldn’t give someone turn-by-turn directions to a place they never asked you to take them. Why would He? The details, the timing, the next step — those come after you’ve surrendered the destination, not before.
That’s the part we skip. We want the roadmap, but we haven’t handed Him the wheel. We want the peace of knowing what’s next, but we haven’t let go of where we’ve already decided “next” needs to be.
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” — Proverbs 16:9
Not our steps toward our course. His steps, toward His course.
So if you’ve been waiting on clarity and it just isn’t coming… maybe the question isn’t “God, why won’t You show me?” Maybe it’s “God, have I actually let go of where I already decided we’re headed?”
Surrender isn’t just admitting you need Him. It’s letting Him choose the map.
With so much love,
Momma J 🤍
