There’s something about nighttime that makes everything feel bigger. The worries that seemed manageable at noon show back up around 11pm, dressed up as emergencies. Anyone else?
I used to think that was just me being anxious. But I think it’s actually pretty human — the world goes quiet, and suddenly there’s nothing left to distract us from what we’ve been carrying all day.
Psalm 4:8 says, “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.” Not because nothing’s wrong. Not because the to-do list is finished or the bills are paid or the kids are all doing fine. But because peace was never supposed to come from things being resolved — it comes from Who’s holding it while we rest.
So tonight, before you scroll one more lap through your phone or replay tomorrow’s problems for the tenth time, try this instead: name one thing you’re setting down. Just one. Say it out loud if you need to — “God, I’m done carrying this tonight” — and let that be enough.
If nighttime anxiety is a regular visitor for you, Peace Over Panic was written for exactly this — a short, honest reset for when your mind won’t quiet down. And if you want tomorrow to start differently than tonight is ending, Grace Unfolding is a gentle way to meet God first thing, before the noise starts back up.
You don’t have to have it figured out to lie down in peace tonight. You just have to hand it over.
Sleep well, friend. He’s got the night watch.
With so much love,
Momma J 🤍
